Allan McBain

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at Reunion 2014.

As a small child Ballarat-born and raised, Allan McBain (known as Macca) would jump at the chance to go for a drive with his father who drove trucks for Ballarat's Life Guard Milk Company. He knew from that time forward that whatever he did when he grew up it would have something to do with trucking.

Around the age of 21 he gave Ron Hucker a hand delivering roof tiles on weekends and did a bit of work on the weekends for his uncle in driving a Bedford. He found work driving a Kenworth S2 for Robbie Mayes and later took a job driving a W Model for Active Haulage in Adelaide. Eventually Allan purchased his own truck. He liked the Kenworth marque and purchased an SAR Kenworth which he worked subcontracting for Fluid Freight in Melbourne.

Today at 63 years of age Allan is still as interested in trucks as ever. He has been in the game for more than 40 years and it has been an interesting time according to Allan. Over the years he has driven a wide variety of trucks and carted just about every type of freight including general, fuel, chemicals, potatoes and fire bricks. He recalls that on his on his travels he could always count on a good feed at the Winton Roadhouse, just outside of Benalla.

here have been numerous trips, jobs and bosses, and like everything, Allan has his favourite memories. There was his boss Brian Liston at Wettenhaul Transport, who Allan describes as a true gentleman and his boss of many years, and Keith Reid, who remains a close friend to this day. Like most things in life, Allan's achievements would not have been possible without the help and support of friends and family. Special mention goes Elaine - the mother of his four children and Lesley, his partner of the past 27 years and their daughter.

Allan now works for Golding Transport Industries in Adelaide, driving a Kenworth and pulling a B-Double bulk cement tanker. He loves the job, the work and the people and is quite happy to say this is where he hopes to retire.....one day!
