Brendon Mitchell

Brendon Edward Mitchell was born in Ivanhoe, Melbourne on the30th March 1964. He lived in Box Hill until the age of three then his parents moved to the Spot Cafe Roadhouse in Tynong. Brendon attended Garfield kindergarten and when his family moved to Trafalgar he went to Trafalgar Primary School. They moved back to Box Hill where he attended Box Hill Primary and then Box Hill Tech. During school holidays Brendon would drive his father's Transtar tipper on site.

Brendon started a motor mechanics apprenticeship and on weekends and after work would help his father maintain the trucks. Brendon was 18 when he got his articulated licence and began driving for Complete Storage Systems and Alpine Tower Hire. He then went to Readymix Spray Seal, resealing roads around Victoria and New South Wales. Brendon went on to drive a bitumen sprayer and then a Mercedes 2234 which had a steco float on which he carted all the asphalt equipment to various jobs. He then drove a Kenworth 871 GM with a steco float followed by a 4300 Transtar. Brendon married Lorna on the 24th April in 1994 and they moved to Lilydale.

Readymix merged with Emolium to become CSR Emolium and Brendon then drove a N7 Volvo with a float that had been manufactured in the workshop. The company updated the trucks and Brendon drove a CH Mack Maxicab still towing the same float trailer and then a Mack Trident. CSR Emolium was bought out by Works Infrastructure and then he drove a Mercedes Actross with a new four axle Drake. Due to road regulations Works Infrastructure had to update to a K104 Kenworth as the Mercedes wasn't legally allowed to cart the road profiler for weight reasons. Brendon is still driving the Kenworth and carting asphalt equipment.

In 2014 Brendon received his 25 years of service award from the company. He has two sons, Hayden 16 and Curtis aged 13. Perhaps they will follow in their dad's footsteps just as Brendon has with his late father, Graham Mitchell.
