David McQualter
David McQualter, better known as Bill was born at Numurkah, Victoria the youngest of the family with three brothers and three sisters. For most of his life Bill has lived in the small country town of Berrigan. He married his wife Bev in 1974.
Bill's interest in trucks and the transport industry began at an early age, going away with his brothers, Richard (Dick) and Peter otherwise known as Ranger. Unfortunately Peter passed away in1977 aged 33 as the result of a truck accident.
Bill was first employed by Noel Heppel at Berrigan driving a 1418 Benz and then drove for Jay Twite of Barooga in an ACCO. He started carting tomatoes and general freight to Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
Bill and Bev moved to Melbourne where he had a couple of driving jobs before moving back to Berrigan in 1979 where he drove for Alan Baldwin of Finley. He then got a job with Knights of Kilmore carting fuel. Bill has carted fuel to many parts of Australia including over to the gas fields of Roxby Downs in South Australia. He stayed with Knights for about 13 years before he joined Finemores Transport Company of Wagga Wagga carting fuel. He stayed there for a few years. In 1998 Bill started driving for Kelvin Baxter of Berrigan where he has been for 16 years carting grain for local and interstate.
Bill is currently driving a 908 Kenworth. He has pulled single, B-double and triple trailers. He has been driving for over 42 years. Bill and Bev still live in Berrigan and have four children and eight grandchildren to date.
