Kevin Nolan

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at Reunion 2010.

Kevin Nolan, born in 1950 at Casino, and now married with three children is currently working full-time as a B-double driver for Kuchel Contractors in Nurioopta.
Kevin's son has followed on his footsteps and is now a full-time truckie and his grandson is headed the same way. Kevin was interested in trucks at an early age. Ken Gillespie from Murwillumbah took him under his wing and had a big influence on Kevin, showing him how to tarp and tie down loads properly.
Kevin yearned to buy his own truck but drove for several other operators to get experience first. In 1975 he purchased his first truck, a C-Line International 1960 model thanks to a generous gift of a $4000 deposit from his wife's grandmother. During the next few years he moved with his family to South Australia where he upgraded to an ACCO with a bunk so he could accommodate his family on long trips. Kevin says he is where he is thanks to God's protection and the support of a loving family. After that he went to a White Road Commander it had the luxury of an air conditioner imagine that! Kevin worked long and hard to make ends meet carting Venning's field bins, BHP steel, hay, watermelons and any type of general freight.
His reputation as a safe and reliable driver meant he was never without a load. As Kevin's reputation proceeded him it was a tremendous honour and surprise when he won the Driver Safe Jim Crawford Memorial Professional Driver of the Year Award in 2002. Now, almost sixty, Kevin's love for trucks and the trucking industry has in no way diminished. He is a keen advocate for the industry and well deserves his place in the National Road Transport Hall of Fame in Alice Springs.
