David Nichols

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at Reunion 2010.

David Ronald Lance Nichols was born in Inverell NSW 04/07/1960. Still to this day, David (also known as Squeak) works fulltime throughout the eastern states and runs a small business from home.

At the age of 12 he got his first taste of the trucking industry off siding with a small company in Ashford called D.H. Fermor Carriers, which transported tobacco, sawn timber, stock, wool and grain. When he turned 16 he jumped into the driver's seat of an International C-Line.

The C-Line was a single drive and towed a wide spread Fruehauf trailer. From there he went into drilling rigs in central Qld and Hunter Valley. After several years he went back onto the semis and road trains carrying equipment for gas, oil and coal projects. He then changed to doing long distance heavy haulage. For the last 23 years he has been working for Lettsy's Transport driving tippers around Brisbane and hauling over dimensional freight throughout central and eastern Australia. One of the best trucks Dave has operated was a 1984 SAR Kenworth doing heavy haulage. He knew he could tackle a job without there being any problems.

Some of the routes he has travelled on were Darwin-Granites, Brisbane-Weipa, Timboon-Moomba Sth Australia, Townsville-Adelaide, Perth-Cairns. Some of these road were rough making night the best time to travel so the entire road could be used to avoid corrugations, but it was still slow going. David always tried to schedule trips so he still had a life, but in saying that he never refused an offer of freight or of helping someone out. The best new things that were introduced  to the industry were going from tube type tyres to tubeless and changing from spring suspension to air bag suspension. In the future David would like to increase the size of his business.
