Mick & Ros O’Hara
Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at Reunion 2014.
Michael Shane O'Hara (Mick) was born in 1956 and began driving trucks when he was just 17 years-old at Narrung, S.A. When his family sold their dairy farm to purchase a transport business from Dick Davey in 1973, Mick worked alongside his parents, Stan and Betty and his three brothers. Mick's first truck was a V8 petrol Dodge tray-truck and trailer carting livestock and general goods.
In 1978 the O'Hara family moved to the small neighbouring town of Meningie after purchasing Meningie Transport, a local business specialising in the transport of livestock. By 1982 Mick had met and married Ros and the couple went on to have three sons. In 1991 the couple took over the family trucking business from Mick's parents. Ros ran the office and Mick organised trucks and loadings It was a combination that worked well. Mick became involved in the Livestock Transporter's Association of South Australia (LTASA) and was State President for two years. He went on to be elected President of the national body, the Australian Livestock Transport Association (ALTA ) and later served as its representative on the board of the Australian Trucking Association (ATA).
O'Hara Transport was one of the five leading livestock transport businesses that helped develop the inaugural quality assurance system designed for livestock carriers. TruckCare has since gone on to become a nationally-recognised system. Mick and Ros have always been passionate advocates for the trucking industry and the livestock transport sector particularly. Together they have fought tirelessly over the years for the continuing growth and prosperity for all involved in the industry. It was just this kind of determination and dedication to the industry they love which saw O'Hara Transport announced as winner of the NMA Award for Packaging, Transport and Distribution in the 2000 Balfours Meat Industry Awards for Excellence.
Mick has also been honored with Life Memberships from LTASA and ALTA. He holds these honours with pride and will always have a keen interest and admiration of the livestock transport industry.
