Glenn Porter

Glen MyIne Porter was born Les and Myrtle Porter on the 14th May, 1947, the second son of three sons born to the couple.  While still at school, he helped his father in this trucking business carting sheep, wheat and hay.  Glenn left school to work at Power's Garage as a lube assistant.
In 1967, at age 20, he was called up for National Service but was discharged on a health issue.  Upon his return Glenn started driving trucks, firstly with Colo Stower, a local grain hauler, in a Commer Knocker.  He then drove for Dan Loveday also in local grain. His next job was with John Smith, driving a B-model Mack interstate.  Glenn ventured out on his own buying a 1418 Benz from John Smith in 1972.  This was the beginning of a long-life in the transport industry, which, in early years, he really enjoyed.  In the years to follow, he bought a Kenworth and in 1980 bought a Freightliner.  He still kept his Fords.  Like many other operators in the industry, Glenn found that single trailers for his work was not economical, so he branched into B-doubles and road trains. Today, Glenn services Melbourne and Mt. Isa.  Glenn loved the road until the fleet increased and soon found there was not enough time to drive himself and to keep the vehicles properly maintained.  In 2000 Glenn decided to give up interstate truck driving .Glenn still has his trucks running interstate but he himself continues to do some local driving as he feels like it.Glenn is a familiar face on the highways and is well known up and down the road. He was always well liked because of his willingness to share his knowledge and lend a helping hand wherever possible.
