Rodney Quinn

Rodney Bruce Quinn (commonly known to his friends as RB or RBQ) was born in Cleve, South Australia on 2 December 1948. He has remained in Cleve all his life and is married to Mandy.  Together they have one son and three daughters.  Two of the children work for the company today: Scott as the general manager and Kirstie in administration.

Rodney started his business in 1966 with one Ford 8000 truck servicing Cleve and surrounding districts carrying groceries and general freight to and from Port Lincoln.  In the 1970s there was an agricultural boom which led to increased freight requirements and the hauling of goods from Adelaide.

RBQ saw the opportunity to expand and diversify and began the cartage of stock, bulk grain and fuel.  He was one of the pioneers of road train freight on the Eyre Peninsula.  As farm machinery and land holdings increased in size and farming techniques improved Quinn Transport continued to grow.

Rodney has given up a considerable amount of his time to pursue and fight for the benefit all industry stakeholders.  In the past he has been vice-president and president of the South Australia Livestock Carriers and is currently vice-president of the S.A. Road Transport Association  Board which involves much travelling to Adelaide and endless dealings with Transport South Australia and the state government at a ministerial level.  With these endeavours Roger has been able to improve conditions for all South Australian carriers.

Being based in a small town like Cleve, Rodney has placed high priority on supporting his community and is very active in sponsoring local sporting clubs across the region.  He has done this throughout his business life.

Quinn Transport is the largest road-train operation on the Eyre Peninsula with a fleet of 30 road trains, 1000 trailers and dollies. The business employs 25 fulltime subcontractors and in excess of  75 people. The fleet comprises bonneted Kenworths and Western Stars, two Fords, one Mack and one Freightliner. The company is contracted by Viterra to move grain from the Eyre Peninsula country silos to the export terminal in Port Lincoln. In 2012, it assisted Viterra to ship record tonnages of grain through Port Lincoln. Quinn Transport has also been instrumental in assisting with the development of new mining ventures in the west and northwest of South Australia with the cartage of materials for roads, railway lines, concrete plants and infrastructure.
