Ronald Ruska
Ronald James Ruska (AKA Stumpy) was born in Swan Hill on February 20, 1948. After leaving school at 13, he worked on various stations around Hay in NSW. He then found his way to Macarthur in the Western District and started work for Jack Peach in 1968, carting livestock driving a Commers and a 7 Series Dodge. He met and married Lyn and they moved to Werribee where Ron worked for Keith Tubbs driving tip trucks. Next move was to Shepparton where Ron started work with E.C. Phillips in 1971 driving a 1418 Benz and then went on to have stint as an owner driver with a UD and then later an Acco 3070 loading mainly out of a Phillips' doing interstate carrying general and produce. During this time, Ron and Lyn's three children Jodie, Megan and Bryant loved to go in the truck with their dad and got to see a lot of the country and learn from their dad at the same time. Ron had a break from trucks when they purchased and ran a busy milk bar for 12 years (not to Ron's liking!) before returning to work for Phillips' which then became Patricks and later Visy Logistics, where Ron Stayed doing Shepparton to Melbourne driving a Kenworth B-Double until he retired in 2015.
Ron still likes to get behind the wheel of a truck, loves a hit of golf, caravanning at his leisure and a cold beer or two.
