Peter Ross

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at Reunion 2014.

Peter Charles Ross, known as Little Pete or Rossy, was born in Darwin in 1964, the younger son of Alan and Mary Ross. Young Peter grew up in the shadow of his father Alan and brother John both of whom were well respected truck operators in the Top End of the Northern Territory during the 1950s, 60s and 70s.
Peter's father, Alan Ross was one of Darwin's original taxi drivers before setting up business as a general carrier. He established Alan Ross & Co. in the late 1960s to service the haulage needs of remote communities all around the Top End. Alan Ross & Co. was a real family business in every sense of the word. Over the years all the Ross brothers worked in the business at various times and learnt about the trucking life.

After finishing Year 10 at Darwin High School Peter went to work for his father initially helping load and unload trucks but later driving trucks. Peter also worked for GT Monk delivering soil in the Darwin area. He then spent some time with Better Pave where he drove trucks sealing roads. In later years he worked at NT house movers. After Peter became ill and was less mobile he worked at HSS Concrete, an indigenous owned business on the outskirts of Darwin. He assisted in the office with administration and sourced parts for trucks that were broken down and man- aged registration of the HSS fleet of motor vehicles, plant and machinery. Over the years Peter drove many kinds of trucks in- cluding Mack, Kenworth, Western Star and  Volvo.
Peter's love of driving extended beyond his working life. He also contributed to the Hidden Valley Drag Racing Association where he raced his beloved EH Holden into the 1980's. He went on to win many titles. In later years he was a regular on the hill, well known for his gentle natured smile.

After battling a long illness, Peter passed away 2 February 2012. He is survived by his wife Tiffany, and son Jake. Peter Ross is remembered as dedicated family man with a heart of gold.
