Gary Roberts

Gary was first taken in the truck when he was 15 months old. They would take a little school case with nappies and a bottle. They would go to Geelong and back with general freight and pick up wool for Melbourne Wharves. They would have a stop so Gary's nappy could be changed and clean him up.

When he got older Gary was taken on interstate trips and by the time he was two, he had done more trips to Sydney than most older drivers. He had also driven the cars and old trucks and tractors around the farm at Horsham and Laraham.

Gary went to Christ the King school in Bray brook, the St Johns College and Tottenham Tech. He spent a lot of his time looking at and drawing trucks. His school work was suffering, his football and truck trips were curtailed until his schoolwork improved.

Gary did his apprenticeship at Richardson & Son in Braybrook as a welder. Before he finished his apprenticeship, he was admitted to St Andrews to have a cancer removed from his leg. This was when he was going to be a truck driver. He was six weeks short of finishing his apprenticeship.

Gary and Jackie got married and lived in Lawn Crescent Braybrook, when Gary bought his first truck, a TK Bedford tray. Later they had Andrew, then two years later, Sally came along. They had moved into Balcombe Street, North Sunshine.

Gary also played football at Braybrook where he coached the Reserves into the Grand Final. He later sold the Bedford and worked for Department of Admin Services until they were closed down. Gary then worked for BHP Transport & Logistics and bought Ian Tandy's R-Model Mack. He coached Rockbank Under 10 and Under 16 teams to Premierships. Gary later bought Shane Kelly's T650 Kenworth while still working for BHP. He later sold the Kenworth and worked for VersaCold Logistics for 10 months.

He then went to work for SRT Refrigerated Transport, eventually buying a Freightliner Argosy picking up trailers from Tasmania, delivering and reloading and taking them back to TT Line Spirit of Tasmania for Tasmania. Gary is now a grandfather of one and one on the way, due February 2015.
