John Smeeton
John (Smeeto) Smeeton was born in Springsure on the 10th June 1951. He started out fixing trucks for his father in the family business in Springsure, central Queensland in 1965. In 1969 he started his apprenticeship in the business.
After three years John moved to Brisbane where he finished his apprenticeship with International Harvester at Rocklea. John spent a number of years there in the hub of the transport industry gaining a vast knowledge of International trucks, Detroit and Cummins engines.
John then moved to International Harvester on Groote Island for some time. After that he moved to a Perth dealership, then to Adelaide and other workshops before returning back to central Queensland.
Returning to Rockhampton, he worked for the UD dealership for sometime before returning to International, IVECO and Western Star Dealer. John has held a variety of roles over the years, from an apprentice, tradesman, Workshop Manager, Service Manager, Salesman to Branch Manager.
John's exceptional knowledge of equipment repairs covers numerous brands from 1970 to current day. His skills and quest to gain more knowledge is still as driven today. John's interest in the transport industry has seen him travel to the United States of America and Japan numerous times on factory tours, truck and machinery shows.
John's current role is Sales Person for the Hi-way 1 truck group Rockhampton branch, in this role he has many customers and tradespeople who he assists with advice from his many years of experience.
As John has such a broad background in all aspects of the transport industry his vast wealth of knowledge benefits all who have the pleasure of coming into contact with him, from an apprentice, to a person purchasing a truck, or to factory engineers.
With no plans for retirement and plans for the next trip to the United States of America, John is still acquiring knowledge and is an asset to the trucking industry
