Mick Simpson

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at ReUnion 2010.

Michael started working in the transport industry in 1969, working for Frank W Johnston Transport at Greenacre. His main work was delivering drums and packed products out of the BP Fuel Depot at Auburn, to service stations around Sydney. In those days there were no such things as a rear tailgate loaders.

Trucks were loaded on docks and 44 gallon drums were rolled onto the trucks. After turning 21 in 1971 he made a career change and drove for McVicars Bus Service of Lidcombe. His first route was Strathfield to Bankstown which he did till 1975. McVicars sold out in 1978 and in February 1979 Mick went to work driving for Telecom Australia in three to eight ton trucks. After approximately two years he progressed to driving single axle prime-movers, pulling bogie trailers interstate with the occasional trip to Melbourne or Brisbane. After 10 years with Telecom, Mike took a redundancy package. He then started driving heavy tow trucks part time until 1983.

In August 1989, Mick started working in the truck panel beating industry working for smaller repairers before starting at Wales Truck Repairs Smithfield where he still  works. Greg has built up a network all over Australia getting phone calls for assistance; many times with the assistance of his wife of nearly forty years. Mick is known to welcome drivers into his house for the night when they are stuck.
