Alan Scott AO

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at Reunion 2002.

Alan Scott first joined the workforce as a 12 year old milking cows in Milang, SA.  He could not possibly have had any idea at that point in time, that forty years later, he would be operating the longest milk run in the world over a distance of 4000 kilometres between Malanda, QLD and Broome, WA.
Alan started driving his own truck on 1st August 1952 in Mt Gambier having sold up in Milang.  He soon ventured into livestock haulage before expanding further.  He began trading with the Vacuum Oil Company Pty Ltd under the name of Scott's Agencies in 1959.Mr Alan Scott AO was Chairman of the Scott Group of  Companies, a widely diverse business encompassing Australia's largest private transport industry.  For Alan Scott the load was never too big or too small.  From short, medium or long haul through to express and parcel services and roadtrains hauling fuel and essential supplies in remote areas of outback Australia, Alan Scott was renown for seizing opportunities as they arose and then working hard to ensure they were viable.It hasn't always been just business where Alan Scott was prepared to go right to the edge to support causes in which he believed.  His high profile battle to save the Bank of Adelaide, his financial investment to ensure the Mt Gambier wool mills kept operating and his outlawed share proposal to raise $50 million to save Compass Airlines are fine examples of this.  There have been ventures into media, supermarkets, hotels and many other industries.  Alan Scott, who received many accolades for his generosity over the years, was awarded an OAM in 1986 and twenty years later, an AO in 2006.Alan Scott was a self-made business success story and a major employer in every state of Australia.  His business acumen was equalled only by his generosity to community.  He passed away in October 2008 following a long illness.
