Eric & Coralie Streathfield

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at Reunion 2005.

It all started for Eric and Coralie on a farm called Airdale in Osmington, WA in the late 1940s with the carting of fertiliser for themselves and for their neighbours using a horse and cart.  Unbeknownst to them at the time, the purchase of their first truck, a Chev 4 that carried one cow in 1950, was going to be the start of a transport business that would span 50 years.
Eric's neighbours asked him to carry their cows to market and soon he was so busy he had to invest in another truck and another, until he had to make trucking his fulltime business and occupation.Over the next 55 years there was a wide variety of trucks in the business including Bedfords, Austins, Commer Knockers, Leyland Beavers and Hippos, AEC, Scammell, and later on Mercedes Benz and Freightliners which now make up the Vasse Transport fleet.  The early 50s saw Eric carting pigs for Watsons Food from the lower southwest and great southern region of WA.  Not having enough trucks to do this Eric formed a co-op with four other owner-drivers until semi-trailer came along.In 1958 Eric purchased a property in Vasse for £2 250 and moved his business and growing family of four children up to Vasse, where he began Vasse Garage and Transport, which was later shortened to Vasse Transport.  Eric, Coralie, Sid and Elaine have achieved many milestones over the years which includes being one of the first companies in the area to own a semi-trailier, triple decker, b-trian and pocket roadtrain.From there Vasse Transport began carting for local famers and big companies like Newcrest Mining,  Brambles and Chemtrans all over Western Australia.Unfortunately Eric suffered a stroke in 1982 and passed away prematurely in 1986, leaving the Vasse Transport business to his son, Sid who now runs it.
