Alan Sali
Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at Reunion 2010.
Alan Sali was the driving force and founder of S. Sali & Sons Transport, Shepparton. Born in 1928 in Albania, Alan moved to Australia in 1937 with his parents and younger brother Sam.
Alan attended Gragamvale Primary School but did not complete his studies so he could help his family at home although with assistance he was able to continue his schooling at night and developed a vision of what the family could achieve. Alan, as the eldest son, was passionately and completely dedicated to his family. Alan and his parents set the standard the Sali family are so proud to follow and implement today.
Alan purchased the Sali's first truck in 1946 when he turned 18. With a keen interest in the transport industry, he worked non-stop through a summer fruit season. In a six-month period Alan worked very hard developing contacts in the trucking industry and building up his knowledge. But after the season, his father, who had been finding it very hard to manage the farm, asked him to make a choice. Well Son, what's it going to be; the family farm or the truck? Despite his tremendous hard work and his love of the industry, Alan chose to support the family and they sold the truck. Ten years later, Alan and his brother Sam, purchased a six-ton Bedford and their trucking business was reborn. Alan Sali then remained fully involved in the trucking business for more then 40 years, with Sam always beside him. Alan was a very ethical man full of integrity and his main concern in life was always the happiness of his family.
And as much as he was there for his family he was there for the business. Alan was a great believer in being loyal, ethical and always wanted to make sure the customers were cared for. When it came to customer service that was number one. Alan Sali always believed in being on time and making sure that the goods were handled correctly. He was very loyal to his staff and made sure his customers came first.
Alan's public relations skills were exceptional and Sam believes they were the reason S. Sali & Sons was so successful. Alan passed away eight years ago this June although he will never be forgotten for his vision, love and contribution to the establishment of S. Sali & Sons and his family.
