Gordon Smith

Gordon Arthur Smith was born in Melbourne on July 16, 1963. Parents Leslie and Valerie Smith had seven more children, 5 boys and 2 girls.

Gordon attended school in Ceduna until 1978. After Gordon left school he teamed up with his big brother Bill going two up in a Day Cab White 9000 between Brisbane and Perth.

In 1981 Gordon passed his semi license test and immediately gained employment with his father Les carting between Melbourne and Perth subbing for M & S Transport.

Gordon started his own business in 1988 alongside his eldest brother Bill, buying a White 4000, Road Commander and an S Line International that brother Bill already owned and drove.

Gordon drove his beloved White 4000 until he had an accident at Crystal Brook destroying his truck and came within a whisker of claiming his life.

The accident wasn't all bad for Gordon as later that year whilst recovering from his injuries he met his wife and business partner of 28 years Monika. Some twelve months later along came son Matthew, joining Rob and Ben to complete their family.

After a few years out of the transport game in 1996, Gordon, Monika and his later father Les started Town & Country Freighters in Adelaide.

Eldest son Rob is now Operations Manager allowing Gordon and Monika time away to enjoy the spoils of their hard work.

Town & Country Freighters service a vast area of SA including the Mid North, Mallee, Adelaide Hills and the Fleurieu Peninsula.

Town & Country Freighters service clients on a daily basis such as Ridley, Neutrog, Bunnings and SWH amongst many others.
