John Richard Schollick
John R Schollick was born in Melbourne in 1945. He received his highway name of 'Turbo' in the 1970's. His family were involved in the sheep and wool industry and his father used Clydesdale horses as they had no tractor after World War 2.
John received his car and truck licence when he was 18 years old. His first job was with Tradex Transport delivering off the wharf with an old wooden hand trolley around Melbourne. John had many driving jobs when he young to get experience. Prior to having his own business, John drove JH Ralph's Dodge 760 prime mover on stock, Kenworth slimline 'Grey Ghost' for Kwikasair, a Foden with a Rolls Royce six cylinder motor and an International C190 just to name a few. Most of the loads were food stuffs, steel, produce and general.
John started his career as a business person in the mid 1970's when purchased an ex Dalton and Taylor 1418 Benz and sub contracted for Clive Brothers on livestock and then for Clark Refrigeration. John then had a grain and fertilizer transport company in the Riverina. Before selling it in the late 1980's and starting Road City Transport, this was an exciting time as it started small and grew to a large operation with major contracts with some of Australia's biggest companies including Smorgon Plastics and Sabco to name a few. John had depots in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide through til the late 1990's. Once again John had built a successful business. The business was sold to Mainfreight in 1998.
John worked for BT Transport for two years as a driver, but the desire to own his own business again was strong. He started up RCIT Holdings PL, parent company to Lockyer Valley Waste Management (vacuum trucks) with major mining and government contracts which he still owns.
John joined the RFT back in the early 1990's, he is also a foundation member of the NTF which later became known as NATROAD with 36 years as a member. John was chosen to do the BP fuel card advertisement in 1993 and did the RTA road train trails from Walgett to Moree. John has many certificates and memberships including being a chartered member of the Institute of Transport. He is also a five time past Rotarian president and is on many local committees. John is also involved with 'Lights on the Hill' committee in Gatton where he lives with his wife Nicole.
