Malcolm Steinert

MALCOLM GRAY STEINERT was born on February 1955 in Waikerie South Australia. Ever since he was a small child he always wanted to be a truck driver and so one month after his 16th birthday in 1971 he went and obtained his heavy vehicle licence. Malcolm's father, Lesley owned a transport business, so he had literally grown up with trucking in his blood. He took every opportunity to go for a drive. His first job was carting grapes for his father. Both Malcolm's brothers, Alan and Kevan, also went on to become involved in the road transport Industry.

At just 16 years of age Malcolm started work for Walter R Stanley in Ramco as shed hand and delivery driver. It wasn't long before he was promoted to drive one of Stanley's Mercedes Benzs. He did his first interstate trip at age 17 and went to get his first log book in Victoria.

"You must be 18 in Victoria to hold a heavy vehicle licence and the police were surprised to find I'd driving trucks for the past year."

In later years he went on to drive for Lochert transport and Schiller Brothers. After marrying Julie in 1976 he went to work on his father-in law delivering produce to Adelaide Market in Nilo's 1418 Mercedes Benz. Malcolm decided it far more viable to start his own packing shed to transport direct to merchants. He purchased the Benz from his father-in law to start his own transport business. In 1987 he purchased an International S Line International to transport to interstate markets. The business Northside Produce SA Pty Ltd quickly grew and so did the fleet to 8 trucks. During the next 30 years Malcolm has run a successful business transporting produce and general freight all over the country driving everything from roadtrains to Perth and B-Triples to Brisbane.

Over the years Malcolm drove a variety of trucks from Ford Louisville's, Mack and Western Star, to his current Kenworth Fleet. He has always taken great pride in his trucks;-even spending his weekends cleaning them. His hands-on approach, still as a fill in driver today, and desire to give great service has grown his small business in 1978 to a turnover of over 3 million
