Peter Spence 2010

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at Reunion 2010.

From an early age Peter lived in a trucking yard owned by his father Colin Spence. After school each day Peter spent his time driving trucks and earthmoving machinery.

Peter first learned to drive in a Mack B61 with a quad box. In the family business there were many marques including Leylands, Mercedes Benz, 'S' model Kenworth, AECs and Diamond Ts.

One of Peter's first jobs was truck driving on the Moomba to Sydney gas pipe project in an old Diamond T. Peter then spent some time working as a contract diesel mechanic on various mine sites throughout Australia. A motor vehicle accident put paid to that career as a severe injury meant he could not spend long days on his feet. On his recovery he went back to what he knew best ... truck driving. Peter purchased a six wheel Volvo tipper and later formed a partnership with his father and they went on to build up the business known as Coogee Bulk Transport with thirteen prime-movers and various tippers, semi-trailers and low loaders.

In 1994 Peter decided to branch out on his own with a W-model Kenworth and Drake 50 ton low loader. After some years, Peter sold this rig and decided to be an employee for a change and worked for McMahon's Heavy Haulage driving their Mack and towing a 100 tonne low loader. Before too long Peter decided to buy his own truck again and purchased a V8 Valueliner Mack and joined Strategic Transport as a driver. Over the years following, Peter worked for several businesses including McMahons Heavy Haulage, Strategic Transport, Kingston Heavy Haulage, Lampson Australia, PIHA and Gould Transport towing quad side tippers.
