Patrick South

Patrick South left school the age of 14 and started his working career at a sawmill in his hometown of Heyfield in Victoria. Ever since he can remember he has always been fascinated about the trucks that were entering the small township.  It was at the sawmill that he decided that he wanted to drive trucks. Even though this didn't happen for quite a few years later, the desire was always there.  Patrick had a variety of jobs including the sawmill and working at a piggery.
When he moved to Melbourne he started to work for the Wettenhalls Group, when it was known as Amezdroz and Sons (A&S) in 2001.  It was here that he realised that his dream of becoming a truck driver would happen.  Patrick started out by driving a rigid truck completing local deliveries in Melbourne.  It didn't take Patrick long to work his way up to a B-double licence.  He continued to perform local deliveries in a B-double, and in that time he also did a couple of country and interstate runs.In 2004 Patrick was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, and he thought his driving career was over. Wettenhalls Group has supported Patrick through his disease and until 2 years ago he was still completing his B-double runs around the city. When it became apparent that he could no longer complete the duties associated with tautliners his manager transferred him to the wharf division where he could continue his truck driving dream.
Patrick continues to be a full-time employee driving trucks. He says there is no better place to be. His favourite saying is that he has diesel in his veins and while there is breath in him he will do whatever he can to make sure that he remains driving.
