Greg Wise

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at Reunion 2012.

Greg Wise was born in 1964 in Gunnedah, NSW. At the age of 14 he had his ankle severed in a farm accident and had to leave school. Greg always drove the farm machinery and in 1981 his father bought a Flintstone Mack with two gear sticks and, for Greg that was the day his life in the trucking industry began in earnest. He got his truck licence behind the Tambar Springs police station which cost him a carton of XXXX Gold lager.

Every night, for the next two years, he carted grain from Gunnedah to Newcastle to the Ingham's chicken factory and brought fertilizer back to the farm. He recalls spending a lot of time dodging the 'scalies' at Willow Tree weighbridge. Greg eventually traded the Mack in on his beloved 8V92 GH powered White Road Boss to service the wheat harvest throughout NSW and QLD. It was during this time, at the Shell Roadhouse in Murrurundi that he met Sonya, his wife of 27 years.

In 1986 Greg traded the Road Boss on a Ford Louisville 9000 and subcontracted for Refrigerated Roadways towing a chiller van around Australia. Refrigerated Roadways were pioneers in developing the refrigerated transport sector and it was interesting times. Greg continued in long distance haulage for the next four years until 1992 when a driver rolled the truck on the NSW, Qld border and wrote off the old girl. Greg purchased a W-Model Kenworth and continued to do interstate for the next 12 years.

In 2000 the family packed up and moved to Darwin where Greg took a job driving for Bunker Freightlines towing triple roadtrains to Alice Springs every week. When the Alice Springs to Darwin railway was being constructed in 2003 Bunkers pulled out of Darwin in anticipation of a drop in road freight. Greg moved to Perth where he currently operates three prime-movers subcontracting to Northline Freight.

Greg and Sonya have six children with three of them driving trucks. There is no doubt that diesel really is in this family's veins.
