Peter Darryl Wier
PETER DARRYL WIER known to his family and friends as Darryl, was born in Lismore on the 29th March 1953 and has been driving truck since he was 16 years old.
In the early days of Darryl's driving career, he held a fulltime job at the NORCO Lismore and would drive his parents Hillman Hunter to Tenterfield to drive the return trip in a truck to gain experience. A short time later he gained a class 5 licence and secured his first driving position with Bryant's Tankers carrying fuel.
Darryl and his wife, Christine, owned and operated their own transport business for 26 years. During the period of owning their own business he carried general freight, dangerous goods, refrigerated freight, driving his W model Kenworth or his International T-Line and other types of Kenworth's along the way. Christine and Darryl won a tarping companion at the Grafton truck show in the early 90s. Christine and Darryl made the hard decision to close their business shortly after the introduction of the GST. After the closing of their business Darryl return to driving for other companies such as Flynn's Transport and his current employer Nicholson and Paige Transport whom he has been with for the last 5 years driving a B-Double K200 Kenworth carrying general freight and produce, working along side his son Owen.
Darryl is described by his family as a loving man who works hard for his family. Darryl, his mates and family enjoy listening and telling stories over a few cold beers. Darryl has never been short of job offers. The pride Darryl takes in his truck, the way the way the freight is delivered and the customer service he provides is a credit to him. It takes a special person to survive over 10 million kilometres and 50 years on the roads. Along the way employers have become friends, and some even family.
Darryl is known as a true gentleman of the highways and is considered to be among "the best". He recognised by his peers for his exemplary service and dedication to the transport industry.
