Geoffrey Wall

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame in 2021.

Geoffrey Charles Wall (nicknamed Gomez in his early truck driving years) was born in 1944 in Fairfield, Victoria. His love of trucks and desire to become a truck driver began as a six year old.  Geoff went on his first trip with his father, Eric Wall, in his dad’s International truck to Adelaide which he enjoyed immensely.  However, before starting his career in the transport industry, Geoff completed an apprenticeship as a motor mechanic.

Geoff worked for Harry Powell Transport from 1964 till 1969, carting general freight from Melbourne, Victoria to Sydney, New South Wales and backloading furnace coke which was unloaded by hand.  Later in 1969, Geoff worked for Kevin May carting refrigerated loads from Melbourne to Brisbane, Queensland and return.  He continued this work until 1972.  Geoff then went on to cart  chemicals, fuels and gas for Brambles Bulk Haulage Tanker Division, staying in this job until 1979. 

It was then, in 1979, that  Geoff purchased his first truck and  became an owner-driver.  For nearly four decades, he worked as a subcontractor with Brambles Bulk Haulage, Golden Brothers Transport, CRT Group and then Qube  Holdings. Geoff eventually retired in December 2018, at the age of 74.

A particularly memorable moment for Geoff was the presentation of an award recognising his  “Outstanding Career in Road Transport” at the Victorian Truckies Reunion in 2020.

Geoff still loves driving and is passionate about trucks, all makes and models. His favourite pastime is getting together with fellow truck drivers and chatting about trucks and the days gone by. The camaraderie these drivers had was special and made for lifelong friendships.
