John Wright

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at Reunion 2005.

Known as the BIG MAN in transport, John Wright was born at Kogarah to a father and grandfather on lime-carters out of St. Peters, NSW, through the 1920s and 30s.  His love for the open road stemmed from these days and he bought his first truck at eighteen.

He had many trucks as a young man including a power-flight V8 petrol Dodge that was well-known around the traps.  He also had, at various stages of his life, R-model Macks, a 680 Super Beaver Dodge, Commers and Internationals.

He worked on the Moomba to Adelaide pipeline between 1969 to 1971 hauling out of Broken Hill in a B83 Mack.  Eventually he formed JB & LE Wright, working out of the family home at Condell Park, NSW for many years.  As the business expanded he needed bigger premises.  Thus Jonlor Pty. Ltd. was born and operated out of Merrick Road, Lakemba.  At this time John had 25 prime-movers, 40 trailers and eight table-tops working around the clock.  He had the motto There is no place we won't go and nothing that we can't do.  John was an astute business man with excellent people skills employing thousands of people over the years.

He was known to be a generous employer always considering the impact of business decisions on his employees.  As the business expanded it needed to be frequently relocated.  Its re-sitings included Rookwood Road, Lidcombe, Daisy Street, Revesby and finally Clyde Central Goods Yard.  John then decided to go 'intermodal'.  He moulded the freight forwarding business into road and rail and his new business, Railor Pty. Ltd, was formed.  John retired to the beautiful far north Qld but purchased an Iveco truck which he worked out of Bundaberg.  John passed away in 2005.
