Bruce Walker

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at Reunion 2011.

Bruce Edward Walker (known as DOC) was born on 31st May 1951 in Aramac Queensland.  He left school at age 17 to work for his father Mervyn Walker and Livestock Transport in Aramac.

He drove Austin, Deutz and Mack trucks spending many months at Humbert River in the territory carting cattle to Broome and various other places.  He carted cattle to sales from properties around western Queensland, Cannon Hill and interstate. In 1972 Bruce married and spent 5 years in Ipswich carting concrete before returning to Aramac and the family business. He bought a Kenworth Aerodyne and started carting livestock as well as doing tipper work.  He carted coal in the Emerald area and had a truck with Pioneer.  He had four Kenworth trucks of his own. In 1995 he moved to Toowoomba to cart cattle from Wyalla feedlot to Oakey meat works.  After losing this contract he started to do tipper work subcontracting with Boral Transport at Amby, near Mitchell.

Bruce has two Kenworth trucks, a 904 and a 908, and a Western Star carting triples from Amby to far western areas. They called him the Old Fellow. Clayton, his son, learned to drive when he was 13 and now runs the business from Mitchell with his father.  These days Bruce helps out when needed to double drive and maintains the ordering of parts .He has been in the transport business for over 40 years and would know every corner of the roads he has travelled. There have been ups and downs in this time but he maintains it has been a good life.
