Gordon Wyton
Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at Reunion 2008.
Gordon Wyton was born into the transport industry in 1956, following in the footsteps of his father, Doug Wyton. The journey began at 12 when he started driving. He left school at 14 and worked with the family business, Somerset Transport in Muttaburra.
Having been behind the wheel of old English lorries and the modern equipment of today, Gordon has experienced the hardships, been the bush mechanic, suffered financially and done the long hours without the modern luxuries of today. At the same time he gained knowledge and expertise about the transport business, all the time enjoying his work.
Gordon has just about covered every area of the hauling game from mail runs, stock, wool, bitumen, fuel, tippers, general, heavy haulage, wharf, roadtrains and B-doubles. In 1997 Gordon formed a partnership, G & D Partners, which Gordon now operates as a sole director, based at Carole Park in Brisbane. The business is predominantly container cartage with warehouseing, transport and distribution.
Gordon takes great pride in being part of the trucking industry and cares for its future. He is a committee member of the Water Front Carriers Association and a member of the Queensland Trucking Association and Australia Road Train Association. His proudest moment in the industry was to see his father's truck on the podium in the Kenworth pavilion at the Transport Hall of Fame in Alice Springs.
He has made many good mates and worked with some of the greatest.
It is Gordon's passion, and loyalty that has made him a hero of the road transport industry
