Donad Wells

DONALD WELLS was born in the United Kingdom in October 1948 21/10/1948 to parents Tom and Anne WELLS who were farmers Donald left the United Kingdom in 1966, entering into Australia as a young and eager 17 year old. Excited about prospects of working in a country carried by wheat and wool young Donald started his working life on a wheat farm in NSW Central West where he soon got the nickname of Ted.

After watching the trucks on the farm Ted decided that truck driving would be the career path for him! He obtained a rigid license to cart wheat to the silos and he soon realised this really was the passion he wanted to follow. Ted later moved to the wine region of Hunter Valley in New South Wales and started driving local trucks. Ted obtained his semi license at the Singleton Police Station, who just wrote it out for him. This made him 'legal' running between Singleton and Sydney. It was tough going in those days with poor road conditions and unjust regulations but Ted says he enjoyed says the camaraderie of the road. He says he "sure learnt to drive on the old Putty Road" in 1976.

Ted got his first real taste of Interstate working for KL&BJ Stackman. He went on to purchase his own fleet 'Wells Logistics'. During this time, he had many experiences including float work, tanker, flattop / taughtliner but loved the fridge van work. He has covered many parts of Australia running Perth, Tanami into the Cape, Darwin, Melbourne and Sydney.

The last employer Ted had was Damorange where he worked for almost nine years. During this time he was lucky enough to be given his choice of truck, settling on the T900 Director Series Number One, which he drove for just over five years. Ted has now retired only this yearat the ripe old age of 70.
