Graeme and Lynne Anderson

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at ReUnion 2008.

Graeme started local work in Melbourne in 1956 at the age of 19 driving a 1947 3-ton Dodge.  By 1957 he had graduated to his own Leyland furniture van and was sub-contracting for Wridgeway.

In 1960 Graeme moved from furniture removal to general freight pulling a semi-trailer with a Leyland then a "J" model Bedford running Melbourne to Adelaide.

Graeme sold the semi and bought a "TK" Bedford tray-top for specialised deliveries from Adelaide.  Graeme was approached by Alltrans Freeway Overnight Service to run overnight between Melbourne and Sydney.  Fleet No. 01 was the first truck for this service which was to become part of TNT Comet Overnight Service.  After approximately four months, Graeme decided to go back on general, Melbourne to Adelaide, carting for Scotta Transport owned by Mr and Mrs Albino Scotta with whom he formed a cherished relationship.

Next Graeme traded the Bedford on a second-hand single-drive Atkinson and trailer eventually replacing it with a bogie drive Atkinson, which in turn was replaced with a brand new Atkinson in 1968.  After many years sub-contracting with Scotta Transport, Graeme was offered a job Melbourne to Newcastle and return out of BHP Wire by Chalmers Transport, Melbourne.  After a good working relationship of many years, Chalmers arranged for Graeme to do the job direct.  He then moved to the NSW Central Coast and married Lynne in 1980, forming G & L Anderson (T/a Oelspan Pty Ltd).   Graeme and Lynne relocated to Raymond Terrace in 1981.

They ran four semis and a few sub-contractors out of BHP Wire, in Newcastle for about 20 years before the contract was taken over by Toll Transport.  Graeme still runs the business and holds his truck driver's licence operating four Macks and trailers, and an express Hino tray, out of Newcastle, NSW.
