Ian Brims
Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame in 2018.
Ian Brims was born in 1948, in Murwillumbah NSW, the second son of John and Heather Brims.
Ian's father, Johnny Brims purchased a cream and carrying business in 1941 and as soon as Ian and his brother were old enough they commenced work for their father. The business carried out various activities during this time, a banana run, pig and calf run, shifted a few houses around the Tweed, and delivered fence posts and firewood to country areas.
In 1980, Gary (Jock), Ian and Ross purchased the business from their father upon his retirement. From there the business branched into civil construction and the business name was from J Brims and sons, to Brims Earthmoving. Brims earthmoving carted sands, aggregates, gravel, and molasses along with constructing sub divisions, dams and driveways.
In 1994 Ross took over the Tweed Heads depot and worked primarily in transport. Jock and Ian continued to work together until 2000, when Jock retired due to ill health.
In 2005 Ian found the need to open a concrete plant in Murwillumbah, initially to supply concrete to his own jobs, however the business quickly grew from just a couple of trucks, to eight concrete trucks.
Over the years Ian would always go that extra mile to assist those in need, and he would often drop his engagements to get the job done. From his generous nature Ian has earned himself Life memberships of both the Tweed Agricultural Society, and the Tweed River Jockey Club. The Tweed Agricultural Society also named an internal road at the local showground in Ian's honour.
In 2016 civil construction works ceased by Brims Earthmoving, and is now solely in transport of heavy haulage, comprising of truck and dogs, semi tippers, low loaders, molasses tankers, and cement powder tankers.
Ian continues to drive trucks, whether it is local or interstate, and can vary from rigid trucks, floats, or B-Double combinations.
This year has seen the Brims family commemorate 60 years of business and friendship with the Brown and Hurley Group Kyogle. A partnership that is sure to continue with future generations of the brims family.
