George and Frank Burt

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at ReUnion 2005.

Eighty two years ago, two Kilcoy brothers, Frank and George Burt established a hauling company that continues to support the local timber industry. What was known as Burt Brothers until 1932 then became Burt's Transport Pty Ltd and has adapted and survived through feast and famine, drought and flood and continued blows to the timber industry.

The brothers hauled the first, and the last, loads of sawn timber from the Jimna Mill in a motorized vehicle. Prior to that it was all hauled by bullocks. In those early days the Burt's carted timber out of mills now gone Monsildale, Louis-vale, Sunday Creek, Yedna and Kilcoy. Later, in the 1960s, they also hauled from Nanango, Elginvale and Benarkin.The biggest challenge to the company has been the gradual closure of those mills due to loss of resource.

Part of the Conondale Ranges, now under threat from the Regional Forest Agreement, were first closed down in 1984 because of possible a threat to an endangered species.The current managing director of the company is Bruce Burt.  His  father, Frank Faulkner Burt, took over the running of Burt's Transport in 1956 on the death of his father, In turn, Bruce took over the reins of the family business when his father died in 1996. 

Frank junior never hung up his boots Bruce says, revealing that his father had even been to work on the morning of his death. Descendants of FG Burt and their families are now the owners (shareholders) of the busi¬ness. Frank Burt literally grew up in the transport business.
