Dave Crighton

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at ReUnion 2011.

Dave arrived in Australia in 1968 aged 31with his wife and three children. Arriving at a hostel camp in Broadmeadows he and his family stayed there for about a week. He then moved to Maffra where he worked in a butter factory which he did not like.

He then joined Dyers Transport where he was employed for about a year and then went to Pineboard Industries in Rosedale where he was employed as a fitter. Within a year he ended up at Welded Pipe Lines as a local driver. As the company grew so did the size of the fleet and within three years they bought a new 1419 Mercedes Benz with a Fruehauf extendable trailer which he drove throughout Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia delivering loads of structural steel. He was then given a new Mack R700 day cab.

By now the company had been renamed WPL Industries and he was promoted as transport manager. With the increase of over-dimensional work to the Gippsland Power Stations  the fleet was increased by another four Mercedes Benz's. ICAL Group then purchased WPL and the trucks were sold but they kept  the trailers. The transport division was born. Dave ran the transport division for over twenty years using company trailers and subcontractors carting a multitude of over-dimensional loads.

After nearly thirty years of service ICAL folded the transport division and an era was over. Not a man to be held back, Dave started at Simons Transport.  After a short period he became an independent and formed a close association with Robbie Walker Transport and continues to service the needs of his long list of loyal customers at the age of 73.
