Jeffrey Robert “Jeff” Cutter

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame in 2022.

Jeffery Robert Cutter, known as Jeff, was born in December, 1962 in Horsham, Victoria, one of five siblings.  He grew up in Horsham and, as did all his siblings, went on trips with his father, who was a truck driver for many years.

When Jeff was 15 years old, he moved to Perth, Western Australia where his sister lived and worked in the yard of K&S Freighters for six months. Returning to Horsham, he worked for a car dealership and other places before being offered the opportunity to become a truck driver with Watson Transport. Being slightly too young to obtain a semi-truck license, Jeff was granted an exemption when Bob Watson wrote to the authorities saying that he had a job for Jeff if he could get a license!  Jeff’s first trip was from Horsham to Melbourne, carting a load of wool bales in a 1418 Mercedes Benz.

The transport Industry has been a large part of Jeff’s life for over 40 years. During this time, he has held many different roles, working as a driver, a Shed Supervisor, Logistics Manager and a Driver Trainer but his passion has always been driving.  For a while Jeff worked in Portland on the Victorian coast but he has been mainly based in Horsham. He has been employed by K&S Freighters out of Mt Gambier, South Australia and Scott’s Transport among others.

Jeff has been behind the wheel of tippers, B-double units, fuel tankers and more recently, a road train and has pulled many a flat top and skeletal trailer. He has carted general freight, grain, fertilizer, fuel, fish, dangerous goods, and containers. For many years Jeff drove the Melbourne to Adelaide run.

Jeff has driven a variety of trucks but his favourite make is Kenworth.  In 2013 whilst working for Annett Cartage Contractors, he was given the keys to a brand-new Kenworth to drive; he loved it! The last truck Jeff drove was a blue Kenworth T609, owned by Jamie McAuliffe. Named, ‘Big Blue’, this truck was Jeff’s pride and joy as he hauled containers to Melbourne.

Unfortunately, due to health issues, Jeff has reluctantly retired from driving.  Willing to work hard and give anything a try, Jeff is a much-respected member of the transport industry, known and admired by many, none more so than his family.
