Ian Cootes

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at ReUnion 2003.

Following a period in the Police Force, Ian Cootes went from being a self-funded single tanker owner-operator to become Australia's largest tanker operator with 800 employees.
IT technology adds value to Cootes customers with electronic delivery of information.  Other value-added operations within Cootes include three terminals at Pinkenba LPG terminal, the Bassell Propylene Plant and the Tullamarine Joint Users Jet & Aviation Interplane refuelling facilities at Melbourne Airport.

Ian has developed and introduced many world class initiatives to the transport of dangerous goods, liquids and gases.  The initiatives have had a dramatic and positive effect on the operational efficiency, environmental impact and productivity gains for Cootes customers.  Tanker construction developments have been designed and built in-house within the engineering division.  Ian has created employment conditions that have attracted a very loyal team of drivers, workshop and operations staff.  These have developed into a world-class team of professionals.  The top 60 longest serving employees have over 1,000 years service with Cootes. 

Ian has been a former director of OAMPS Ltd and Chalmers Ltd and ION Ltd and has a turn-over of $700,000,000.00 per annum. Ian has contributed substantially to the community by making available his time, expertise and resources to the Australian Liquefied Petroleum Gas Association, the Australian Road Research Board and the National Bulk Tanker Association.  Ian has been a significant benefactor of many charities including the Alfred Hospital, where he is Chairman of its Foundation, and the Variety Club.
