John Dyson
Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at Reunion 2015.
John Dyson was born on the 7th October 1937 in Macarthur, Victoria. Since 1955 at the age of 18 John has driven trucks. He first drove a livestock truck for R.J. Peach in Macarthur. His second job was driving another livestock truck for K Hamilton in a close by town of Orford.
After four years in livestock he went to work for his uncle SR Dyson in Dartmoor driving interstate with general freight. His first semi-trailer, with his uncle was a petrol Commer driving from Mt Gambier to Melbourne and Sydney.
After some time with his uncle John then mainly drove for Kain & Shelton and Telford & Hood in Mt Gambier South Australia. Then it was around 1971 that John started work for Ted Rowe in Hamilton Victoria carting timber and heavy haulage all over Australia and still remains with Ted on a part-time basis at the age of 77.
There was a period of time in John's career that he did some Coach Tours with Peaches Australian Tours (Hamilton), Coles Coach Tours (Warrnambool) and Jack McCallum (Casterton). These tours were all over Australia up and down the west and east coasts of Australia and the centre of Australia.
John's favourite truck is a Kenworth and even though he only drives part-time now he still eats sleeps and breathes trucks and loves catching up with his truckie mates Australia wide.
