Early in this period, he delivered produce from north Queensland to interstate markets. He also worked for Express Freight out of Adelaide.

He obtained a dangerous goods licence and started work with Chemtrans who kept him in work until he retired in 1995.Norman drove many trucks during his driving life: Scania Road Commander, Kenworth Road Boss and Louisville LTL. His favourite was the Road Boss.  His sons joined the business and it is still going strong.  Norman still does the occasional trip. The thing he misses most is the mateship.
