Norman Evans

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at ReUnion 2011.

Norman Evans was born on 27th June 1931. He has been involved in road transport for approximately 45 years. His interest in trucks started before he got his licence when he used to ride with his brother.

When licensed, he started with a gravel delivery business, driving a Diamond T, moving on to B.S.W. Livestock driving a Ford 600 and then to Victorian Grain Store, driving an International 90-471.In 1962, Norman purchased his first truck, a 1955 Ford used for carting wood to Melbourne wood yards from various areas around Victoria. He also undertook local work in and around Melbourne.He started doing interstate runs, subcontracting to various well-known companies. Early in this period, he delivered produce from north Queensland to interstate markets. He also worked for Express Freight out of Adelaide.

He obtained a dangerous goods licence and started work with Chemtrans who kept him in work until he retired in 1995.Norman drove many trucks during his driving life: Scania Road Commander, Kenworth Road Boss and Louisville LTL. His favourite was the Road Boss.  His sons joined the business and it is still going strong.  Norman still does the occasional trip. The thing he misses most is the mateship.
