Michael Evans

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at ReUnion 2014.

Michael Evans, was born in Melbourne in 1966 and educated at Warrandyte State Primary School and High School. He left school at age 16 to become an apprentice gardener with the Victorian Country Roads Board (CRB). When he turned 18 the CRB helped Michael obtain his articulated licence

After finishing his apprenticeship Michael started driving a tipper and dog for Vince Troppiano carting volcanic rocks from Colac in south west Victoria to all parts of Victoria, as far as Mildura, Lakes Entrance and all points in between. The return load was usually red gum, firewood or garden chips from Mildura or topsoil from south east Victoria. Soon after, Michael took a job driving a jumbo pantech for Rainers Transport carting lounge suites to Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

It was now a time for change. After 18 months on the interstate run, Michael bought his own truck, a plastic cab Atkinson tipper. He returned to his original job towing a dog trailer carting volcanic rock. When the job of loading heavy rocks got too much he turned again to the 'endless white line', driving for Sebires Refrigerated Transport carting fresh fruit and vegetables to the Sydney market.

After three years on the highway Michael was missing home and family and decided it was time to start working locally again. He bought a Mercedes Benz 2624 and a float and started moving heavy plant and earthmoving machinery. The Benz 2624 gave good service for four years before it was replaced by a new S-Line International which Michael is still operating today.

There is a family history of involvement in road transport; a cousin doing interstate, two great uncles who ran passenger buses and Michael who is following his father, Tony, already inducted in the National Road Transport Hall of Fame, in road transport. Michael has worked and loved his job in road transport for the last 30 years.
