Garry Evans

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at ReUnion 2012.

Garry Evans first started driving trucks for his father, Norm Evans, in 1978. Together they drove 'two-up' all over Australia and it was during this time that Norm showed Garry the ropes and taught him the fine art of being a real roadtrain driver.

In 1980 Garry proudly purchased his first truck, a Nissan UD CK40 which he soon put to work carting insulation and plastic bottles from Melbourne to Brisbane. In later years Garry went on to own and operate several trucks including a 'Bubble' Volvo, an Atkinson and a Ford LNT.

Garry has worked for several big companies over the years including Gainfire, Simpkins and Freight West. He also worked for ten years for his brother at Colin Evan's Transport which was based in Melbourne.  He drove double and triple roadtrains hauling general freight Australia wide from coast to coast and through the harsh interior deserts of the Outback. He says his good friend, Stewart Terry has always been there to help, support and guide him along the way.

In 2011 Garry purchased an Aerodyne Kenworth and is running his own business from Townsville carting general freight from Queensland to the Northern Territory. He loves the freedom of the open roads and likes to set his own pace while enjoying the daily challenges that the job brings. Running between the Tanami Desert in Central Australia and Darwin is one of his best memories.

Garry is a true gentle giant of the road. His mates say it would be difficult to find a better mate or driver on our great Australian roads.
