David Fyfe
David Fyfe was born in 1956 and has spent his entire life around trucks. As a child he would travel with his late father picking up kegs of beer for the local pub. As a teenager in the early 1970's, he began working on farmland in the Great Southern area of Western Australia. While he mostly worked tractors and farm machinery he loved driving the trucks. His first real trucking job was for Murray Clarke in 1977. He was a Lake Grace farmer who tailored a brand new F12 Volvo known as 'Bulls-Roar' and single trailer to suit the skill of his new enthusiastic worker.
David also pursued a career as a sheep shearer and it was during this time he David bought into his first truck with long-time friend Mouse Lay. The single drive G88 Volvo and bogie two deck sheep crate gave David some skin in the game. A relentless appetite for hard work was not enough to avoid the crippling realty of taxes and overheads and not too long after the truck was sold and David was back shearing. After David met his wife Christine, she proved to be a very capable two up driver during David's ensuing years as a line haul driver across Australia. During the 19 80's David also drove for Beck's Transport in Gnowangarup, carting grain, fertiliser and sheep predominately and seasonal cattle.
A strong desire to be his own boss drew saw David purchase his favourite truck of all time in 1987. The 1978 Ford Louisville was promptly painted deep Brunswick green which, along with the rich Nullarbor beige of the trailers, are still the predominate colours of the Fyfe Transport fleet. Today the fleet comprises seven prime movers and thirty trailers. In the early years David faced many critics who didn't share his vision. Despite this, he has successfully built a multi-faceted freight business that primarily services the needs of the Shire of Lake Grace and surrounding districts.
Outside of his business, David is passionate about the trucking industry serving as a committee member of the now LRTAWA (livestock transport association) for many years. He served as Treasurer for seven years and organised many state and federal transport conferences. David has never sought any recognition or commendation for his service to the transport industry. His efforts are focused on creating a safer, more efficient and industry for the next generation of truckies. David Fyfe well deserves his place in the prestigious Shell Rimula Wall of Fame.
