Lindsay Fox

Lindsay Edward Fox was born in Sydney on 19 April 1937.  The son of a truck driver, Lindsay was asked to leave school during year 10 for his perceived lack of 'academic desire.'
Over fifty years later, at the turn of the century, his company, Linfox, is one of the largest transport and warehousing groups operating in Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Thailand and the United Kingdom.In 1956, just 12 months after meeting his wife of 50 years, Paula, at the old St Moritz ice-skating rink in St Kilda, 19 year old Lindsay visited the trucking company EV Timms in Collingwood and convinced the manager to sell him a truck on the terms of four quarterly promissory notes.  After taking delivery of his first Ford truck, Lindsay spent the next four winters delivering coking coal from the West Melbourne Gasworks.  On weekends he played football for St Kilda.  A natural sportsman, he was a member of Australia's national ice-hockey team. In 1992 he was awarded an Order of Australia (AO) for his contribution to Transport and Community. 

Among his many achievements in transport, Lindsay Fox AO is credited with convincing Volvo in Sweden to introduce its small F7 range into Australia.  With 2000 trucks then in the Linfox fleet, Volvo heeded the advice and now enjoys a large market share in the Australian small truck market.Always enjoying a hands-on approach to his business, in 1999, Lindsay test drove the first Argosy B-Double combination in Australia between Melbourne and Oberon.  In 2008 Lindsay was one of 473 people named on the Australia Day honours list.  Lindsay Fox is one of a handful of people in the country to receive the highest honour, Companion in the Order of Australia (AC).He is non-executive director and founder of Fox Holdings, Director of Premier Investments Limited and Motor Holdings Limited and has held many positions on community organisations.  He has a private extensive car and truck collection which is the envy of many museums and individuals.  Truly an Australian trucking icon.
