Jules Favre

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at ReUnion 2008.

Jules Favre started his truck driving career in 1942 without a licence, driving an old Chev around a farm.  In 1947 he got his licence and started working for a Dutchman named Wagemaker, driving an ex-army truck.  It set the pace for his future.

From 1948 till 1953 he worked for P A Best at Rockdale, NSW  carting fuel when there were no tankers.  It was hauled around in 44 gallon drums.  Next he drove for A Sporne at Annandale in an NR Mack.  His next employer was C W Wise of Summer Hill.In 1953 he worked for Shell doing multi-deliveries locally with some interstate work.  In 1957 he worked for Antill Ranger out of Alexandria.  His first job for Antill was a twelve and a half tonne guillotine from Alexandria NSW, to Salisbury QLD.  He was told this one had to get there.  Hiss boss didn't care how long it took, it just had to get there in one piece and he knew Jules would do it. Two had already gone missing in action.  In true Jules form, he delivered it there, safe and sound, and in record time.

 From 1961-1963 he worked for Dundas Valley Coaches at Rydalmere.  From 1963-1965 he carted mostly grain for Howard Powers.  There was no tipper and he would drive his truck onto a platform, get out, and the whole truck would be hoisted to empty the trailer.  A few employers were next:: Highway Haulage, St ives 1965-1968 on interstate John L Pierce, Girraween from 1968-1976 also on interstate, and Tank Trans (Seatons) at Camellia from 1976-1980.Jules bought his own truck in 1980 and was contracted to Chapmans Transport which later changed to Rapids then Mayne Transport.  He carted liquor and groceries from Silverwater and Blacktown all over NSW.  During his time with Rapids there was an interesting dynamic with Jules being the oldest driver while his son was the youngest.  Jules made many friends on the road over the years and remembers the mateship and camaraderie of the early days as the best of his life.
