Ronnie Hollibone

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at Reunion 2010.

Ronnie Hollibone started his transport career with a 1938 Austin van when he was 20. He then went on to Mosley's delivering soft drink with a 4 ton Chev truck ex-army.

Arnell Bros offered him a job delivering furniture in a Fargo van. When that finished he went to Telopea Downs, Victoria, near the S.A. border with his 1950 Mouth Organ Ford 5 ton tipper carting material for making roads in the desert. Needing a change he purchased an AEC dump truck and worked at Boulders Quarry, Bundoora. He replaced this truck with a Commer Knocker doing the same work.

In 1966 he purchased a l951 Bedford tray and moved his house brick by brick from Tullamarine to Anglesea. This was a massive task. In 1970 he purchased an International 160 tipper and back-hoe. Shortly after he was employed by Alcoa and drove a Euclid dump truck in the mine at Anglesea.

Then the open road called him back to trucking with a 1976 Atkinson prime-mover and tri-axle trailer carting general freight and machinery interstate. His main cargo was Ford parts from Geelong to Brisbane and carpet from Brisbane to Geelong.

Needing a change he went into refrigerated transport with a Ford LNT semi and a Ford Cargo 10 pallet truck carting for Edgells. When this job finished he purchased an S2 Kenworth with a 903 Cummins engine and 13 SP.RR gear box, pulling vans for Vaughan, and then with the Kenworth G.M. 892 engine with 15 speed RR gear box. He was pulling vans for Blackneys Refrigerated Transport of Geelong. He replaced this with a 1988 Ford LTL 9000 and continued to work with Blackneys. Then later Alex Blackney offered him a job driving an Iveco for the company and he continued in this job until the company changed.

Ronnie then took a job working for Wilsons Transport (S.A.) until they closed up and he then worked for Roadmaster, a Sydney Company, until his retirement in April 2010 at the age of 74 years. He is currently planning a trip to Alice Springs.
