Charles Hall

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at ReUnion 2004.

After 12 years of service in the Royal Australian Navy Charles Hall came back to civilian life in 1951 and purchased a Desoto petrol table-top to start carrying cement locally. He only lasted two years at that before he started carrying general goods interstate for Ormonoid Roofing to their factory in Melbourne.

Charles purchased a Seddon diesel as he considered the old petrol Desoto too costly. He kept his contract with Ormonoid for over 30 years until the management was changed. During this time he worked his way through many trucks including, Desosto petrol, Dodge diesel, Seddon diesel and a 1418 Mercedes Benz.He was a long term member of the Road Haulage Road Transport Association of Australia based in Balmain. Charles felt the Road Transport Association was very supportive and gave the hauliers great assistance in their many battles against bureaucracy in those early days. His father was also in transport, firstly with horse and cart and then later with A-model Fords. His business, Hall Bros Carriers of Springwood, NSW operated from 1920 to 1935. Charles Hall operated his business from 1951 to 1985 as Halls Transport of Bankstown.

Since 1974 his son has been operating as Hall & Son at Kemps Creek, NSW. The Hall family has been in the haulage business for over 80 years, from grandfather, to father and to son. Between them they have seen haulage by horse and cart and A-model Fords right through to the latest trucks and worked with draught horses to over 550 horse-power trucks.
