John Kerr

John Kerr was born on the 24th December 1950 in Cohuna, Victoria and grew up on the family farm at Dingee with a strong desire to drive trucks. At 16 he was helping his father with a six metre tray truck carting their own livestock.

In 1973 John moved to Bendigo when he married Glenda and together they ventured into the livestock transport industry purchasing their first truck, an International V8 Acco with a 2 ¾ deck stock crate on a McGrath spread-trailer which he extended to a tri-axle trailer and made the crate into a two by three deck. The Acco was traded after several maintenance bills. John wanted a reliable truck that he could transport livestock whenever and wherever they needed to go.

In December 1973, John purchased a brand new G88 Volvo. In 1978 the Volvo made way for John's first Mack, an F model. In 1982 his second Mack arrived, an FR721 Cruiseliner. In 1988 the F model was traded making way for his Mack Mark 11 Superliner, the pride and joy of the fleet, winning Rig of the Month in 1991.

In 2013 the Superliner was refurbished and with a few modifications it is still in excellent condition. John still operates the Superliner together with his T904 Kenworth, two B-double stock crates, eight trailers and two road train dollies.

John services the eastern states of Australia hauling livestock from Queensland to the southern Riverina and Victoria. Seasonal conditions can take him to and from Western Australia. John's longest livestock haul was 3700 kms from Dongara in Western Australia to Victoria.

John prides himself on personal service, keeping his trucks clean and neat and handling the stock as if they were his own. He is well known on the road and enjoys a chat with everyone he meets. John has been an active member of the Livestock Transport of Victoria since its inaugural meeting in 1986.

John said the support of his wife Glenda, who runs the office and is the person who did the things he was unable to do because he was away so much, was the strength of their business.
