Darrell Killick

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at Reunion 2008.

Darrell Killick grew up with trucks.  His father and uncle, both being truck drivers, taught him the fundamentals of driving.  He learnt to master a Road Ranger at an early age and took every opportunity to drive any truck just for the experience.
He wagged school for the chance to drive his neighbour's Dodge Commer and did general freight in an R200 International for Tony Lane T/P.  When he did legally acquire a licence he started at the bottom, driving a table-top for McLeods Flour Mills and hand loading and unloading 67 kilo bags.  He then joined his father at NB Love driving rigids, semis and eventually bulk pressure tankers.
After a few years Darrell got the urge to move on and he worked for Neville Johnston at JoMac where he did mostly interstate driving work.  He learnt loading techniques and  had to double tarp every load.  He learnt a lot from Nev and holds him in great respect.  He then drove the eastern seaboard and country NSW for Pittman T/P delivering lime, cement and ash.  He would load out of Marulan and travel to water treatment plants in QLD and VIC and return with cement.
In 1990, aged 31, he started his own business in an ex-Turners D3F Dodge carting chemicals for Redox.  When the Dodge died he bought a Hino.  When he got restless he sold the business and for a short time drove for various companies such as Pioneer, Specialised Tankers and Panuccis.  Darrell liked being an owner-driver and it wasn't long before he was back in business.  He bought a 69 W-model and did work for Recall, McLaughlins, Bon McArthur, Ross Freight and US Transport.  He bought a T600 and employed a driver, operating two trucks for a time.  He later sold the T600 and the 69 W Model came off the road and has since been fully restored.
He worked carting carbon black for Boral out of Kurnell for a couple of years and now subbies for Boral in a Kenworth T904 carting lime, cement and ash in bulk pressure throughout NSW.
