Owen Laundess

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at Reunion 2011.
Owen, with his father, worked a number of jobs doing road work with a Commer truck filled with a Bervman loader and an International truck with a semi-trailer, carting fuel from Sydney, cement from Safala, wheat, wool and logs out of Bimbi Forest to Boltons Grenfell Saw Mill.
In 1954 Owen and his wife Lorna moved to Albury and Owen started working for Tom Pearsall at the Albury Brickworks. He quickly became a brick maker and then manager, always maintaining his interest in trucking with clay and brick cartage. Owen purchased a Mercedes Benz truck in 1974 for the cartage of bricks. When Boral took over the Albury Brickworks, Owen and Lorna took over the cartage of bricks and clay. This association has continued to this day. While trading as Laundess Brick and Clay Transport the fleet has been mainly Mack. Owen pioneered B-double brick deliveries into Sydney with a V8 Mack Value Liner. At the release of the new Mack truck model in February of this year, Owen was recognised for his outstanding support of the Mack truck. Since 1974 he has purchased 44 Mack trucks. The delivery of cement power poles to the Mungo National Park in NSW was a highlight for Owen as he loved to take these loads out into the bush and know that he was making his mark on a special place and making the area more accessible.At the age of 80 Owen regularly makes the 4 hour return trip to Oaklands for a load of clay or takes a load of bricks to one of the many building jobs in the surrounding area. Laundess Transport continues today supplying clay to Boral Bricks and transporting their products. Owen and Lorna's fleet of trucks, carrying their own forklifts, are a familiar sight on the Hume freeway each day.
