Leslie Laurie

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at Reunion 2010.

Leslie James Laurie was known amongst his peers as one of natures gentlemen. The Transport Industry lost one of their own on the 18th of December 2007.
Les was born of the 7th January 1944, he was the second son of Victor (Snr) and Joyce Laurie. He spent a big part of his life in Texas, Queensland where he was born and went to school. The early days of his life could be described as very energetic always getting into some type of trouble with his parents and peers it usually has something to do with a car or truck in one way or another.
After leaving school he went on to follow his father's footsteps and pursue a career in the trucking industry. His earlier days as a truckie involved many types of work from carrying hay and livestock to where-ever was needed to be done to make a living. Later in life Les moved into the Interstate Hauls and had been doing the Brisbane to Melbourne run for the past thirty years, carting mainly timber and general freight. It is here that he built up comradeship with all other truckies on the road. There is something very unique with the friendships that are built between these road warriors. Les was the type of person who had a big heart, always had time for a chat and a person who helped many people over the years. His death has left a big void in many people's lives and he is sadly missed by family and friends alike.
His children say that as a dad he was right up there at the top, loyal and dedicated and that he will always live on through his grand-children and his family and his many friends.
Leslie Laurie was a likeable larrikin who worked hard and gave his all to the trucking industry and to his many mates.
