Evan Lori
Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at Reunion 2005.
Kelmscott Transport & Agency commenced operations in 1928, when Joe Lori purchased a truck and started to cart local produce; fruit, vegetables and eggs, to market from the surrounding districts of Armadale, Kelmscott, Roleystone, Karragullen and Gosnells.
After delivering the produce he would then pick up parcels from some of the old firms in Perth like Boans & Bairds to take back to his local district, often picking up a couple of children on their long walk home from school. Evan helped his father at a very early age and joined the firm in 1956 after completing an apprenticeship as a fitter and turner. Evan went on to marry Gabrielle in 1960 and they had four sons; Philip, Darryl, Kyle and Aaron who were all indoctrinated at an early age, into the hard work ethic of their father and grandfather. Joe and Elsie Lori worked in the business until they were both 70 years of age when they retired and handed over to Evan. The business has continued to develop over the years with input by all members of the family. Apart from Evan's own children, both his sister-in-law and daughter-in-law work in the office and at times the grandchildren enjoy washing trucks and trailers to earn pocket money. The fleet has expanded to 11 prime-movers, a small fuel tanker and 25 trailers. They also own and run a service station. As a long standing business, the Loris are well-known for supporting the local community and the family would like to see Kelmscott Transport & Agency continue to grow and expand through the efforts of the next generation. In the meantime, they continue to work together as a family in the road transport industry. The Loris have always prided themselves in giving the very best service they can in all areas of the business and this has made them well- respected and liked in their local community and among their trucking peers.
