Allan Lord

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at Reunion 2011.
Allan Lord (Lordy) first started in the industry as a self-employed subbie delivering furniture. Then he bought his first semi-trailer which was a bulk cement tanker and prime-mover running from Sydney out of Kandos in NSW.
The family sold the business in 1981 and moved out of Sydney to Tambar Springs to try their hand at farming but droughts nearly beat them. In 1983 he met up with William Shaw of Shaw's Darwin Transport. Will was just starting out running to Darwin with roadtrains. A drought on the farm made things difficult so Allan got work with Will and started his career running roadtrains out of Darwin. Allan and Bob Richardson were the two original drivers for Will and Allan was with him for 22 years running out of Dubbo to Darwin, Perth and in between. When they first started they would pull out of Dunedoo across the back roads to Enngonia and on to Darwin. They moved from Tambar Springs in 1986 to Dubbo where it was easier for Allan to meet up with the truck coming out of Sydney.
An article was written about Allan in the Australian National Geographic Magazine. He also had articles written about him in Truckin' Life and a European Magazine about the time Will had a Mercedes prime-mover which was one of the first to pull triple roadtrains in Australia.In 2005 they moved to Warwick in Queensland where it became too hard for Allan to drive to Dubbo to meet up with the trucks so he left Will after 22½ years. Allan then drove for Finemores Fuel for 3 years and is now with Glenmar Fuels at Allora running into Brisbane with fuel tankers. Allan's family believe Allan is a worthy nomination to go into The National Road Transport Hall of Fame. His driving record and experience driving long distance for over 40 years, accident free, is evidence of this. He is now 62 years old.
