John Lincoln

Inducted into the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame at Reunion 2008.

John Henry Lincoln started his transport career as an apprentice in Brisbane with Cobb & Co completing his time with Cousins Transport.  After he completed his apprenticeship he ventured to Mt Isa to work as a fitter for Utah.
After moving to Darwin he met Ted Stiles, the owner of the much respected "Outback Transport".  At the time, John was the first driver in the new outback service to Alice Springs, Mt Isa and the Kimberleys.
After a couple of years John drove two seasons with Vesteys.  He drove the Rotinoff 'Julie' whilst his close mate, Richie Whitehead, drove 'Jackie'.  Next he was driving for Norm Fisher, hauling uranium ore from El-Sharano mine to the treatment plant at Moline and yellow-cake to Rum Jungle.  Prior to marrying Denise in 1965, John drove for Alliance Oil Development in Port Keats and then went onto managing Fishers Service Station in Pine Creek.  The call of the road beckoned and John did a stint with Noel Buntine driving the legendary B-model, 'Power and the Glory'.  Changing again, this time to Mt Isa and driving the cattle trains with the Wrights.  The days were long and hard so he returned to his trade as the breakdown mechanic for Cobb & Co coaches in Brisbane.  In the 70s he suffered serious injuries when a tilt cabin came down on top of him.  This ended his beloved driving days although he continued working in various mechanical positions until the late '1980s.
In the early 1990s John and Denise retired to Townsville until John succumbed to the ravages of emphysema and passed away in February 2003.  He is survived by his wife and three children: John, Chris and Rebecca.  He was a true Territorian truckie.
